The Chinese Teas Festival
After the bride service, or occasionally the next day, the brides serve drink to their relatives. This is a symbolic gesture to show appreciation and respect for the love and support they have received throughout their lives from their families and ancestors. The couple also offers their parents red envelopes filled with money ( also called hong bao ) as a symbol of good luck.
This entertaining custom can be performed either before or after the wedding service. During the parade, the man and his posse did light firecrackers, affect gongs, and hold lanterns and banners to ward off evil spirits and encouraged their new bride. The groom and his entourage are typically denied a view of the marital home until they turn in plenty crimson envelopes, or new bao, to satisfy their hosts when they arrive at the bride’s home.
This is a lovely way to honor and appreciate a husband and wife’s cherished relation. The couple’s aspirations for prosperity and happiness may be kept at the forefront during each round of the divine fire.
